The PRAYER’

The Eucharistic Prayer: Why & How It Matters

From early times the prayer over bread and wine at the Eucharist was known as the Prayer, so important a place did it have in the corporate worship of the Christian community. Where did the prayer come from? And what was the basis of its importance for Christians? What does that history have to do with the Eucharistic prayers that we use week by week, and what exactly makes a Eucharistic prayer?

This series will include a bit of history of early Christian worship and of its Jewish roots, a look at our current Eucharistic prayers—all with an eye to helping us prayer such prayers better together.
